In the bible, Jesus said that man shall not live by bread alone, I beg to differ.
There’s nothing like some warm bread with fresh creamy butter.
Food is different things to different people. To some it’s just sustenance. To some it’s their culture. To some it’s joy. To some it’s nutrition, but to us foodies it’s a love of food. The making of it, smelling it, and eating it. It doesn’t matter if it comes from a food truck, a festival, a restaurant, or our kitchen. It all says DELICIOUS to us. What is cuisine?
You asked what is cuisine? Cuisine is a style of cooking made with particular ingredients, cooked in a certain way to create a specific dish, and it’s usually associated with a certain area of the country. For example, haute cuisine is high quality food cooked in a French way.
This is Haute cuisine
This is Thai cuisine.
This is Mexican cuisine.
This is Italian cuisine.
This is Greek cuisine.
This is African cuisine.
This is Jamaican cuisine.
Last but not least, there is Soul Food which has actually become an expensive cuisine at many restaurants around the world. What’s unbelievable is that, the ingredients in the food that is used in most of these dishes were actually the food that would be thrown away or considered to be the unfavorable part. Now because people are survivors, we all have learned how to do more with less. Our palettes have grown accustomed to a variety of flavors, styles of cooking, as well as the different types of seasonings from all over the world. This is why I say we are a melting pot of flavors, cultures, and cuisine. We are GUMBO. Everything all mixed up to create a flavor sensation where all the seasonings compliment each other, creating a meal so delicious our taste buds will say,
Ooh Ooh so good.
GUMBO IS THE OFFICIAL STATE OF LOUISIANNA CUISINE WHICH CONSISTS OF A GRAVY STEW, STOCK WITH SAUSAGES, CHICKEN AND/OR FISH AND THE HOLY TRINITY: CELERY, BELL PEPPER, AND ONIONS.
If you asked a group of people who travel a lot, what is the worst thing about traveling. I’m sure they would say the boarding process. If you asked the same people what the best part about traveling is, I would bet that 80% would say experiencing the different types of foods. I believe that’s how a lot of us became foodies. We live to try different types of food from different cultures, because it becomes an adventure for our taste buds. That’s why there are so many shows on TV about traveling around the world eating all kinds of food. Though that may be the case, there is nothing like your own food. Home cooking really does mean something. It’s comfort. It’s trust. It’s faithful. I am a foodie. I love to eat and try out different types of food, but if my back was against the wall and I had to choose, there is nothing like some Collard, Kale, Mustard, and Turnip Greens, Corn bread, Fried chicken, Candied yams, Macaroni and cheese and a Banana pudding, with some Ice cold Lemonade or Sweet tea. When I see this meal, I know that I am home or in heaven.
Remember this country was built by black people and immigrants. We can’t receive their food and won’t accept them.
We just had Juneteenth which was a holiday for black people to celebrate that in 1865 in Galveston Texas General Granger brought black troops to Texas to tell the black people that they were no longer slaves. The celebration was short-lived but one of the mainstays of Juneteenth was the food. Red represented all the blood that was shed. To commemorate that, they had red pop, red decorations and red velvet cake.
What I found was so amazing is that red velvet cake is the second most popular cake behind chocolate. Go figure!!!
OOH OOH WEE SO GOOD!
